The calculation
Each round has a maximum of 12 points per side, which is 4 bags in the hole. Compute both raw totals first, then cancel. A round where one side scores 6 and the other 4 is worth 2 points, not 6.

Tracking a game on paper
Keep two columns and write the running total, not the round score, in each row. That way the current score is always the bottom entry and nobody has to re-add the column mid-game. Note which side threw first each round so you can settle disputes about order after a washed round. The practice tracker records raw round scores for solo sessions.
Where scoring goes wrong
The two frequent errors are scoring both sides in a round and stopping the round the instant a side crosses 21. Rounds are completed before the game ends, and only the higher side scores.

What is the highest possible score in one round?
12 points, from 4 bags in the hole while the opponent scores nothing. Cancellation means any opponent points reduce that total.
Do I subtract points for going over 21?
No. There is no bust rule, so finishing above 21 is a normal win.
